I
was born in Shaoyang, Hunan province, China.
I am the oldest of four siblings,
here is a photo of my young sister
and brother.
I spent junior years (1986-1989) at the No.1 Middle School in Shaoyang.
Here is one photo of some old classmates.
I attended Shida Fuzhong (the High
School Attached to Hunan Normal
University) for my high school study (1989-1992). Our class C153
consists of students selected from the whole Hunan province.
My second half of high school was actually at
Tsinghua Fuzhong (High School
Attached to Tsinghua
University). I was a member of the 3rd
National Mathematics Class, which consists of students selected
nationwide. I just discovered an interesting Chinese article written
by our supervising teacher (word,
pdf).
I spent one year (1992-1993) in Jinan Military Academy (formerly
Xingyang Military Academy) after high school.
It was a required military service for
all entering students of Peking University at that time.
I did undergraduate study at Peking University
and graduated with BS in Mathematics (1993-1996).
I was a PhD student majoring in Computer Science at WashU from Jan 1998 to Dec 2000. I obtained MS in CS
in May 1999 and D.Sc in CS in December 2000. My advisor was
Subhash Suri, and my
dissertation was about computational geometry.
I met my wife at
WashU and got married on January 2nd, 2000.
We have some wedding photos. She was
a PhD student majoring in Neurobiology, and we graduated
from WashU at the same time.
I was a member of research staff at
CompaqSystems Research Center
in Palo Alto, California from December 2000 to May 2002.
