  • (9/21/15) Paras Tiwari successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis on "Automating Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy Treatment Planning by using Hierarchical Optimization".
  • (11/18/14) Two PhDs graduated from our group -Yao Xie and You Eric Xu successfully defended their doctoral theses.
  • (3/20/14) Dr. Chen serves as the publicity chair for AAAI-15, the first winter AAAI conference.
  • (11/22/13) Our paper "Kernel Density Metric Learning " is nominated for the Best Paper Award at the IEEE ICDM-13 Conference and invited to a special best paper issue in the Knowledge and Information Systems Journal.
  • (12/01/12) We receive renewed funding to continue the project "Custom Optimization Solvers for Intensity Moderated Radiation Therapy Planning" from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
  • (9/26/12) Dr. Chen serves as a senior PC member for IJCAI-13 and a PC member for ICML-13, CIKM-13, ICDM-13, BigData-13, CLOUDCOMPUTING-13, KDD-13 and SDM-13.
  • (05/04/12) Our paper on "Near Optimal Rate Selection for Wireless Control Systems" is nominated for the Best Paper Award at the IEEE RTAS-12 Conference and invited to a special best paper issue in the ACM Transactions on Embedded Computing Systems.
  • (06/30/11) Dr. Chen receives as a co-PI a 3-year, $1.2M grant for "Development of a Drug Therapy to Ameliorate Permanent Hearing Loss" (PI: Jianxin Bao) from the National Institute of Health.
