CS Grader Job FAQ
Some answers to frequently asked questions about becoming a CSE
grader....
What qualifications must I have?
There
are no specific requirements that all graders must meet. In general,
graders have taken 1 or more courses in the CSE department and have a
B or better average in these courses. In addition, they receive
positive recommendations from CSE professors and/or other campus
employers.
How much time does grading take up?
The
amount of time varies depending on which course you grade and how
many students are taking that course. In addition to grading,
graders spend at least 2 hours a week consulting. So, that adds up
to anywhere from 3 to 10 hours a week for most undergraduate courses.
Some graduate courses require more hours becuase the professors ask
the graders to assist in planning labs, homeworks, and exam problems.
How much will I get paid?
Salaries, which start at $8.50 per hour, vary
according
to each grader's years in school and grading experience.
How do I apply?
CSE
grader applications for next semester will be available online
at
http://www.cse.wustl.edu/~csgrader/app.html ( Note for current graders: Use the application linked from your account.)
about 6 weeks before the end of the semester.
Do I really have to fill out an application?
If
you would like to grade next semester, you must fill
out an application. Graduate students who are required to grade or
have been volunteered by their advisors to grade should also fill out
an application (this will save me from having to guess which courses
you would like to grade and are qualified to grade).
What if I'm waiting to hear about other job offers?
If
you are waiting to hear about another job offer for next semester,
please fill out an application anyway, and indicate when you expect
to know whether you will be available.
When do I have to apply by?
Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled.
However, we will probably begin filling positions about a month
before the end of the semester.
