Wireless LANs allow continuous access to campus network from notebook computers anywhere in the building. Recent developments in the technology include spread spectrum which allows multiple users to share the space without licensing a frequency band. IEEE has developed 802.11 standard for Wireless LANs. As a result products from multiple vendors can interoperate. A similar effort in Europe is called HiperLAN standard. ATM Forum is also working on wireless ATM. In this talk, these developments will be explained.
