CLASS LECTURES LIVE ON THE INTERNET - AN EXPERIMENT IN DISTANCE EDUCATION

Throughout this quarter (Autumn'99), we will be transmitting our class "CIS 788.08Q: Recent Advances in Networking"lectures on the internet.

The lectures can be viewed live by anyone on the internet using a web browser. The audiences can see the slides and the lecturer on their monitors as well as hear the class discussion. Live questions can be sent via email. The slides for the lecture are put 30 minutes before the class at: http://www.cse.wustl.edu/~jain/cis788-99/index.html

The classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday, 5:00 to 6:18PM EDT in Backer Room 120 of the Ohio State University. The first class was held on Thursday, September 23, 1999. All lectures given so far are available on-line and can be seen any time from http://www.cse.wustl.edu/~jain/cis788-99/index.html

Anyone with internet access can view the lecture directly from their home or office. OSU students living in OSU Residence halls with access to ResNet can view the lecture from their residences.

On the receiving computer, all you need is the Real Media Player G2 which is available free from www.real.com/products/player/. (Free version of real player is sufficent. It is not necessary to get the Plus version.) No special hardware except a sound card and a network connection to the internet is required. A dial-in connection at 28.8 kbps is sufficient.

This experiment will end with the last live transmission on November 16, 1999 .
